He earned his doctorate from BHU’s Faculty of Education under the guidance of Prof. Anjali Bajpai. His doctoral research explored ethnomathematics as an approach to teaching and learning through the traditional activities of Varanasi’s Kumhar (potter) community, connecting classroom mathematics with knowledge embedded in everyday craft.
Dr. Pandey qualified the UGC-NET in Education three times and received both the Junior and Senior Research Fellowships from the University Grants Commission. His research has also led to a patented Mathematics Learning Device based on Ethnomathematics, granted by the Patent Office, Government of India, in 2024. His interests include Mathematics in the Indian Knowledge Systems, Vedic Ganit, mathematics and physical science pedagogy, educational measurement and evaluation, research and statistics, curriculum and tool development, and ICT in education.
With more than five years of teaching experience across B.Ed., M.Ed., Integrated B.Ed.–M.Ed., ITEP and Ph.D. programmes, he has published 44 research papers and book chapters, including work in NCERT journals and Springer and Scopus-indexed publications, and written a book on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy.
